Sport, Health, Wellness
The Carnot STAR program focuses on Sport, including two of its inseparable components: Health and Wellness. The world's increasingly sedentary population is giving rise to new problems and pathologies linked to a lack of physical activity. These issues are becoming of prime public concern, and inevitably involve the responsibility of manufacturers, as well as changing their practices. Interest in health and well-being issues is also growing, thanks to collective awareness and a shift in the place of these issues in everyday life. Sport appears to be a potential response to many of these issues.
Nevertheless, developments linked to global warming and increasing environmental pollution may limit the benefits expected from sporting activities. These major changes are forcing the various players in the field to launch multi-disciplinary studies in an attempt to pinpoint the benefits and risks of certain practices for target populations.
Our 6 main areas of scientific expertise
Carnot, a label of excellence
The Carnot label is designed to develop partnership research, i.e. the conduct of research projects by public laboratories in partnership with socio-economic players, mainly companies of all sizes (from start-ups to major corporations), in response to their R&D needs. Each of the 39 Carnot-accredited institutes focuses on a specific theme.
This label is awarded to public research structures, the Carnot institutes, which simultaneously carry out upstream research to renew their scientific and technological skills, and a proactive policy of partnership research for the benefit of the socio-economic world. The Ministry of Research awards the label to Carnot institutes following a selective call for applications based on various criteria, including scientific excellence.
