Technology has become a major ally in preparing athletes for the 2024 Olympic Games. The French Taekwondo Federation has understood this. To propel the performance of its athletes to new heights, it has equipped itself with connected breastplates!

Technology at the service of top-level performance

Developed by the teams of Arnaud Hays, HIPE Human Lab project manager, and in particular Justin Regnaud and André Jacques, these breastplates have been designed to meet the demands of Olympic competition!

Equipped with sophisticated sensors and cutting-edge on-board electronics, the connected breastplate detects the precision of the blows landed, and keeps score. The data is then transmitted in real time to coaches and athletes.

This technology is similar to Protector and Scoring Systems (PSS), used in competition as a scoring system. These connected breastplates, made available to the French Taekwondo Federation, reproduce realistic competition conditions.

Scorekeeping offers in-depth performance analysis, identifying trends in fist and foot use, and enabling the integration of complete training programs.

By coupling the analysis of accuracy, intensity, technique and score, it becomes possible to identify, as a whole, the individual strengths and weaknesses of athletes, and adapt training accordingly to maximize performance in competition.

This innovation embodies the perfect union between cutting-edge technology and sporting expertise. Combined with the empirical knowledge of coaches, it ushers in a new era of personalized training and technical perfection for top-level athletes, propelling them towards Olympic excellence.

Initiation breastplates, making Taekwondo more attractive

While these chest protectors are designed for athletes, introductory chest protectors have been developed for use as learning aids.

Adjustable to the level of expertise of the amateur athlete, they aim to broaden the base of practitioners, particularly among young people, by making learning the sport more attractive and fun.

In this way, introductory chest protectors help to meet the crucial challenge of making a sport attractive for competition, where the number of members is a decisive factor in the quest for medals. Indeed, the greater the number of participants, the greater the chances of discovering and training talented athletes who can successfully represent their country at the Olympic Games and other international competitions.

Multi-disciplinary use

But this ambitious innovation doesn't stop there! Its innovative technology is perfectly adaptable to other combat sports, such as Karate, opening up new perspectives for training and competition in these disciplines.

These connected breastplates will soon be on the market. This transition marks a significant step from research to the realization of a real product, which promises to bring considerable added value to certain combat disciplines. These innovative visions of training for athletes, as well as amateur sportsmen and women, are becoming increasingly widespread. The rise of these performance-optimizing technological innovations represents a decisive step towards reaching Olympic heights, and connected breastplates are at the heart of this evolution.
