Combined thermal and physiological approach
The main aim of this study is to create and validate a customizable dynamic model that takes thermoregulatory responses into account, so as to accurately predict temperature changes at any point in the zone studied (the thigh, to begin with), as a function of environmental constraints and individual characteristics.
Ultimately, extending this model to the whole body would enable us to predict the best method of applying cold to these patients, depending on their morphology, and thus increase their life expectancy.
Ultimately, the experts hope to move closer to a simplified model that will not only determine the risk of heatstroke, but also enable clinicians to adapt the cooling protocol to each individual victim. In parallel, they are working on the development of 2 different technologies: a vest to reduce core temperature during exertion, and a medical device to optimize victim cooling.
