The project in brief
What if we could repair the brain's circuits after an illness or accident? And what if the same technology could improve the reflexes of a top-level athlete?
By targeting neuronal plasticity, e-RAIL opens the way to new performance standards: whether it's reconnecting an injured brain, improving an athlete's movements or increasing a pilot's reflexes, all these functions are based on the same fundamental principle: the brain's ability to rewire itself.
Developed at the Neurotech Center in Aix-Marseille, e-RAIL combines photonics, microelectronics and restorative neuroscience. The e-RAIL technology is currently being tested on humanized "brain-on-a-chip" models, in partnership with experts in microelectronics, photonics, neurobiology and physiology. e-RAIL's ambition is clear: to transform a fundamental discovery into an applied technology, for both brain regeneration and sports performance optimization.
