For evaluating and monitoring spastic motor disorders in functional rehabilitation
Portable robotic orthosis
Project summary
Spasticity, a common motor disorder resulting from central nervous system damage (stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, etc.), manifests itself as an often disabling muscular hypertonia.
This fully instrumented, portable robotic orthosis automates the passive ankle mobilizations usually performed manually. Thanks to its precise sensors (angle, force, resistance, speed), it enables objective, reliable and reproducible quantification of spasticity, surpassing the limitations of traditional clinical scales such as Ashworth's.
This innovative device is a robust tool for clinical assessment, longitudinal patient follow-up and analysis of the effectiveness of functional rehabilitation management.
Developed in close collaboration with clinicians, engineers and researchers, the orthosis has been validated on test benches.
Future prospects
Initial results validate technical feasibility and pave the way for broader clinical studies. The future integration of new-generation sensors will further optimize ergonomics, comfort and measurement accuracy, for routine use in hospitals and rehabilitation centers.
